IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Introduction – Farming

Farming

  1. Have you visited a farm?

Yes, my grandfather, who was a farmer, and my grandmother used to reside on a farmhouse in the midst of their farm in Gurdaspur, Punjab. My parents used to take me there during our summer vacation. The farm boasted numerous wheat and sugarcane fields, along with abundant mango and orange trees. I still recall the flavor of freshly prepared warm jaggery from sugarcane juice and the joy of plucking fresh fruits from the trees.

  1. What kind of farm do you like?

I prefer farms that dedicate effort and care to their products. I appreciate ethical farms that treat farm animals humanely, provide them with good diets, and refrain from using antibiotics. I favor farms that cultivate non-GMO crops and avoid excessive pesticide use.

  1. Do you think farming is important?

Yes, I believe farming holds significant importance. Farms constitute an essential aspect of the food industry and serve as the primary source of the world’s food supply. Fresh vegetables, fruits, dairy, grains, eggs, and more all originate from farms. Additionally, farming contributes to a country’s economic growth and generates numerous job opportunities.

  1. Did you engage in farm work when you were young?

Yes, I actively assisted my grandfather on his farm. I participated in the harvesting of wheat crops alongside him and other farmhands. I also played a role in the production of jaggery and took care of dogs and chickens in his barn.
