IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Introduction – New Year

New Year

  1. How do you and your family celebrate New Year?
I typically celebrate New Year with my family and relatives, gathering at my grandfather’s home for the day. A big and lavish brunch is prepared by my mom and aunts. We engage in board games, watch movies together, visit the temple in the evening, and conclude the night with fireworks.
  2. Can you recall a specific New Year celebration?
Certainly, during my 10th-grade year, we opted to celebrate New Year in Goa instead of at my grandfather’s house. We stayed at a beachside resort in Goa, where the soothing sounds of the ocean waves greeted us in the morning. On New Year’s Eve, we attended a party on a ferry, dancing and celebrating the night away. It was such a memorable experience that I would love to relive.
  3. Are there any ceremonies in your country for New Year celebrations?
On New Year’s Day (January 1st), there are no specific ceremonies in our country. Youngsters typically celebrate with friends, and most people prefer spending the day with their families. In various states of India, New Year celebrations align with the solar and lunar calendars, such as Baisakhi in Punjab and Pongal in Tamil Nadu.
  4. Why do individuals view New Year as a fresh start?
People perceive New Year as a new beginning because it signifies an opportunity to bring about changes in their lives, embark on new ventures, bid farewell to old habits, and set new goals and resolutions.
