Being a celebrity – such as famous film star or sports personality – brings problems as well as benefits.
Do you think that being a celebrity brings more benefits or more problems?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
    Write at least 250 words.

After putting in a lot of effort to gain the public’s attention, a celebrity continuously tries to avoid it. It’s true that becoming a celebrity is not easy. At the expense of their privacy, they receive all the attention in the world. Whether or not fame and celebrity are a blessing or a curse is a contentious question.

First, let’s examine the drawbacks of being a famous person. Few people in the world are obsessed with celebrities, while most people follow the start of movies or sports figures. For example, we frequently read about fans writing letters with their blood on the headlines of a few newspapers. I have no doubt that nobody enjoys being stalked by strangers, receiving such letters, or getting bothersome calls all the time. All of these terrifying things go along with being a celebrity. In addition, being a celebrity is not a simple job. At the beginning of the movie, athletes must always perform well to avoid being hurt by the same fans. For instance, the supporters of the Indian cricket team destroyed the homes of the players after they performed poorly in one of the matches.

A coin is always two sides long. All aspire to be unique individuals. I’m sure that being a celebrity must have many benefits because many people aspire to be famous. The money is one of the main advantages. Compared to the general public, celebrities are extremely wealthy. It’s common knowledge that supermodels make more money than educators. And anybody can become a famous person. To become a sports star or a movie star, for example, you don’t need a degree. Stars in movies occasionally get the opportunity to play in different places or go on location shoots. Thus, the balance of work and vacation is excellent. For the average person, it is difficult to comprehend the level of glitz and attention they receive.

Being a role model for others is, in my opinion, the greatest accomplishment of a person’s life, and becoming famous provides an opportunity to do so.

    Dear ………………,

    Dear Mr. Harry,

I am contacting you regarding the potential to take a 12-day leave of absence from work to finish my thesis and final exams for my University of Manchester Master of Finance degree. Please give me a leave of absence from July 17, 2021, to July 28, 2021.

My thesis, which I have to turn in to my teacher by July 24th, is almost complete. To finish it all and get ready for the impending tests, I need some time. So that I may take a break from work, I’m asking for your permission.

I guarantee that I will consistently monitor my emails, potentially responding to a few of them, and remain accessible for urgent calls from the office. In order to make up for any missed work, I would try to arrive at the office earlier than usual after finishing my exams and returning on Sundays. Ethan is willing to share some of the duties while I’m away, based on our previous conversation.

I recognize that my brief absence might give you and the team some inconvenience, but I must take this leave in order to finish my Master’s degree.

I’m eager to speak with you and count on your gracious aid.

    Yours sincerely,
    Susanne Dvorak

Some parents buy their children a large number of toys to play with.
What are the advantages and disadvantages for the child of having a large number of toys?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant example from your own knowledge or experience.
    Write at least 250 words.

The perennial debate surrounding the quantity of toys for children often leaves parents pondering whether an abundance or a limited selection is more beneficial. While a variety of toys has its advantages, it also carries potential drawbacks that warrant careful consideration.

On the positive side, a multitude of toys can ignite a child’s creativity and imagination. Diverse playthings enable exploration of different interests, nurturing cognitive development and problem-solving skills. For example, a child with access to art supplies, building blocks, and educational games may develop a versatile skill set, enhancing adaptability in various situations.

Furthermore, a surplus of toys plays a pivotal role in facilitating social development. A varied toy collection encourages children to engage in collaborative play, fostering teamwork, communication, and social skills. Shared play experiences contribute to the development of empathy and cooperation, essential attributes for successful interpersonal relationships in the future.

However, the downside of an excess of toys lies in the potential for overstimulation and reduced appreciation for individual items. Children may become overwhelmed by choices, leading to shorter attention spans and a diminished ability to focus on a specific activity. In my personal experience, a friend’s child, surrounded by an abundance of toys, found it challenging to engage deeply with any single toy, constantly seeking new stimuli.

In conclusion, the advantages and disadvantages of providing children with a large number of toys are intricately linked to the delicate balance between variety and excess. While a diverse array of toys can promote cognitive and social development, parents must carefully navigate this balance to ensure their children benefit without succumbing to the potential drawbacks associated with an excess of choices.

  • In many countries, the amount of crime is increasing.

Question – In many countries, the amount of crime is increasing.
What do you think are the main causes of crime?
How can we deal with those causes?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
    Write at least 250 words.

The alarming rise in crime rates globally necessitates a comprehensive examination of its root causes and potential solutions. Crime, a complex issue influenced by socio-economic, cultural, and systemic factors, demands a nuanced understanding for effective strategies in curbing criminal activities.

Economic inequality emerges as a primary catalyst for rising crime rates. Disparities in wealth distribution often correlate with higher crime rates, particularly in disadvantaged communities. Individuals grappling with financial hardships may resort to criminal activities as a survival mechanism or an escape from poverty. Notably, studies establish a clear link between high unemployment rates and an increase in property crimes.

Inadequate access to quality education stands as another significant contributor to criminal behavior. Limited educational opportunities hinder individuals’ prospects, impeding their ability to secure stable employment and potentially driving them towards criminal activities. Addressing this cause requires implementing educational reforms and ensuring equal access to quality education, empowering individuals to make positive contributions to society. Social factors, including family breakdowns and community disintegration, play a pivotal role in fostering criminal behavior as an alternative form of belonging. Strengthening family structures and promoting community engagement are essential elements in crime prevention.

To tackle these causes, a comprehensive approach is imperative. Governments must prioritize social and economic reforms, ensuring equitable wealth distribution and offering opportunities for education and employment. Community-based programs advocating mentorship, rehabilitation, and support networks can aid in the reintegration of individuals into society, thereby reducing the likelihood of reoffending.

In conclusion, the surge in crime is a multifaceted issue rooted in economic inequality, limited educational opportunities, and social disintegration. Addressing these underlying causes through strategic reforms and community-based initiatives is crucial. Societies, through these measures, can foster environments that deter criminal behavior and promote inclusivity, paving the way for safer and more harmonious communities.

Question – Some people say that it is possible to tell a lot about a person’s culture and character from their choice of clothes.
    Do you agree or disagree?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
    Write at least 250 words.

The age-old saying “clothes make the man” implies that one’s attire unveils insights into their culture and character. While clothing indeed mirrors personal identity and cultural roots, understanding the full spectrum of an individual’s character requires a more nuanced approach.

Clothing serves as a potent form of self-expression and cultural identification. Traditional garments carry profound cultural significance, offering glimpses into a person’s heritage, values, and even their professional life. For instance, someone donning a traditional Japanese kimono or Indian saree may proudly showcase their cultural roots, while formal business attire signals adherence to corporate norms and professionalism.

Acknowledging that clothing is just one facet of a person’s identity is crucial. Stereotyping individuals based solely on their attire oversimplifies the intricate layers of human character. Individuals might opt for conservative attire in professional settings while embracing more casual or eclectic styles in their personal lives. Additionally, evolving fashion trends and personal preferences make it challenging to draw definitive conclusions about character based on a specific moment’s clothing choices.

In conclusion, clothing offers valuable insights into a person’s culture and identity. However, avoiding overgeneralizations is essential. A comprehensive assessment of an individual’s character considers factors beyond outward appearance. The interplay between clothing and character is intricate, requiring caution when drawing conclusions based solely on attire choices. Understanding the nuanced relationship between clothing and character is key to appreciating the diverse and multifaceted nature of human identity.

  • News stories on TV and in newspapers are very often

Question – News stories on TV and in newspapers are very often accompanied by pictures. Some people say that these pictures are more effective than words.
What is your opinion about this?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
    Write atleast 250 words.

In the era of information overload, news stories flood our screens daily, each accompanied by a barrage of images. The debate over whether pictures are more effective than words in conveying news is a nuanced one. While visuals undoubtedly possess the power to evoke strong emotions and convey information rapidly, the efficacy of words should not be undermined.

Pictures have the advantage of immediacy and universal comprehension. A powerful image can transcend language barriers, delivering a message that resonates globally. For instance, a photograph capturing the aftermath of a natural disaster can evoke empathy and understanding without the need for elaborate descriptions. In this way, visuals have an unmatched ability to evoke an emotional response and convey the gravity of a situation.

However, words offer a depth of context and nuance that visuals may lack. Written narratives provide background, analysis, and a comprehensive understanding that images alone might not convey. A detailed article can offer historical context, expert opinions, and a broader perspective that aids in a more informed interpretation of events.

Moreover, the potential for manipulation exists in both mediums. While a well-crafted photograph can evoke empathy, it can also be carefully selected or edited to present a specific narrative. Similarly, words can be used to shape opinions through subtle framing and language choices.

In conclusion, the effectiveness of pictures versus words in news reporting depends on the context and the goals of the communication. Both mediums have their strengths and limitations. A balanced approach that combines the immediacy of visuals with the depth of written narratives is likely the most effective way to convey news comprehensively and ethically. Ultimately, the synergy between words and images can create a more holistic understanding of the complex issues our world faces.

  • Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure

Question – Your local council is considering closing a sports and leisure centre that it runs, in order to save money.

Write a letter to the local council. In your letter,

    • give details of how you and your friends or family use the centre
    • explain why the sports and leisure centre is important for the local community
    • describe the possible effects on local people if the centre closes

You should write at least 150 words.

You do NOT need to write your own addresses.

    Begin your letter as follows:

    Dear Sir or Madam,

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the potential closure of the sports and leisure centre operated by your council. This facility is vital to my friends, family, and the broader local community.

As avid patrons for several years, my family and I regularly engage in sports activities, fitness classes, and community events at the centre. It has evolved into a social hub, fostering a healthy lifestyle and strong community bonds. The centre is pivotal to our community’s well-being, providing a space for people of all ages to partake in physical activities, enhancing overall fitness, and hosting events that contribute to social cohesion.

Closing this essential facility would have profound adverse effects. Residents would lose a crucial resource for physical health maintenance, and the sense of community would be severely impacted, potentially leading to increased sedentary lifestyles and declining overall well-being.

I strongly urge you to reconsider this decision. The long-term benefits to the community far surpass the short-term financial savings. With proper support and strategic planning, the centre can continue to be a cornerstone of our local community.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,

    Ayush
