IELTS Speaking Part 1 – Introduction – Names

Names

  1. Does your name carry any particular significance?
My name, Indroop, is derived from Hindu mythology and signifies an incarnation of Lord Inder.
  2. How do you plan to select names for your future generations?
Traditionally, individuals used to select the initial letter for a name from a holy book, with suggestions from elders for a name starting with that letter. I would follow a similar approach, aiming for a modern and unique name.
  3. Have naming practices in India evolved over time?
Presently, people tend to deviate from traditional rituals and naming conventions, often choosing names without adhering to specific rules.
  4. Is there anyone else in your family with the same name as yours?
No, I am the sole bearer of the name Indroop in my family. It seems my parents aimed to give me a distinctive and unique name.
  5. Are certain names more popular than others in India?
Given the vast and diverse nature of India, names vary by region. For instance, in Punjab, names like Gagan and Jaspreet are quite common. I recall having three classmates named Gagan during my childhood.
