Question – The pie charts below show units of electricity production by fuel source in Australia and France in 1980 and 2000.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant. Write at least 150 words.

Pie charts illustrate the total electricity production in Australia and France for the years 1980 and 2000, categorized by various fuel sources.

Considering all factors, it is evident that Australia and France employed distinct primary fuel sources for electricity production.

In 2000, Australia witnessed a substantial surge in electricity production, rising from 100 units in 1980 to 170 units. Coal dominated the electricity production landscape in both years, with a greater reliance on the resource in 2000 (130 out of 170, constituting half of the total). Hydropower contributed 16 additional units of electricity in 2000 compared to 1980, while the production from other sources like natural gas and oil decreased.

Turning to France’s fuel sources, the country’s electricity production doubled in 2000 compared to 1980 (180 in 1980 compared to 90 in 2000). The most notable shift was the role of nuclear power, which accounted for only 15 units in 1980 but surged to represent 70% of France’s total fuel supply for electricity production in 2000. It is essential to note the reduced use of alternative fuels in electricity production in 2000 compared to 1980.
